The Brisbane wedding of Greta and Gerard at Our Lady of Victories, Bowen Hills, and Hillstone, St Lucia………

These guys know how lucky they are to have the family and friends they do. Some weddings are all about the dress, or the ring or some other material aspect, but for these guys it was family and friends….. far and away my favourite type of weddings to shoot. Again there’s way too many for a blog post, I’ll have some more up on my FaceBook page soon, but for now here’s a great feel for how the day went. Ceremony was Our Lady of Victories at Bowen Hills, a favourite for nearly every Brisbane wedding photographer I know, the reception was at Hillstone in St Lucia.

Joanna and Jonathan – Brisbane wedding at Newstead House and Aqua Linea

Well Jonathan has just left here with all their photos. Of course that’s a pretty regular occurrence, but this time Jonathan left with a difference, he and Joanna are off on two months honeymoon through Europe tonight ……..very jealous !!

Now I know I’m notoriously bad at blogging, but given these guys are away for such a long time I thought I’d better pop a few images up online for their family and friends to see.

This really is just a sneak peak, their DVD’s contain around 1500 images of themselves, family and guests having a great time. So if you were at this wedding, there’s bound to be at least one shot of you in  amongst them somewhere. Given the partying that was going on that could either be a good thing, or a bad thing … lol

Their wedding ceremony was at Newstead House here in Brisbane, their reception at Aqua Linea at Teneriffe.

The Brisbane Wedding of Michael and Val at Old Petrie Town

Wow what a great day !!!

Val laughed her way through her preparations surrounded by her best friends and family. There wasn’t a single sign of any nerves. I guess Val was pretty confident Michael was the right guy – lol.

Michael on the other hand was a little twitchy before the ceremony. It always makes me smile watching the guys at this time, so much to contemplate !!

There’s always so much happening in the final 30 mins, but given Michael too was surrounded by friends and close family he breezed through.

Old Petrie Town was their chosen location for the ceremony and the reception. I hadn’t been there for years, maybe not since the 90′s??  Fortunately Val and Michael didn’t want shots with the vintage fire truck or machinery so many photographers use when shooting there. Instead we grabbed some drinks and made the most of the natural surroundings. How cool is the beautiful tree they married under !!

Once photos were finished we headed off to the restaurant upstairs in the old hotel to enjoy the rest of the party. This venue was a real surprise for me too. Linfield, the Manager on the night, was very welcoming and couldn’t do enough for me. Everything ran like clockwork under his guidance as the warm and friendly atmosphere saw guests laughing and enjoying themselves in no time.

The food was of a much higher standard than I expected. Quality-wise it matched any of the large popular wedding venues in the city, with the bonus that meal portions were large enough enough to ensure nobody went hungry.

Here’s a quick peak ……. enjoy !!!

Cold hands warm heart . . . a Toowoomba wedding with a difference

My mum used to say that, and then when I met my wife and I discovered it was something she said a lot also I thought “hmmm, is this a sign” ????

Well this Toowoomba wedding had those words at the forefront of my mind, this was probably THE coldest wedding day I’ve ever photographed a wedding. Actually I think the 2nd and 3rd coldest weddings have also been in Toowoomba….. hmmm mental note, pack the snow gear for ALL Toowoomba weddings. The wind just tore straight through us, it was icy cold straight from somewhere down south. We tagged team’d the bridal party during the location shoot, ie we took turns sitting in the limo to keep warm, then jumped out for a few shots, then straight back to the warmth of the limo. The girls were troupers, many would have just said no, but not these girls, they stood there in the coldest wind and gave it their all.

As you can see by the photos Megan was pretty cruisy through the entire day. Mark was feeling the pressure before the ceremony, but not Megan, she just breezed through. I’m pretty sure Megan would happily to do it all again next weekend if she was given the chance. Megan’s Dad tried to be the tough country fella but you could see secretly he’s a big softie and on more than one occasion I caught him sitting back smiling to himself as he watched his little girl prepare for the wedding.

I also need to thank Yvette, the function manager for the wedding at Toowoomba City Golf Club, Yvette was fabulous to work with and it seemed nothing was too much trouble for her. I also need to add I was very impressed with the food. The Volovants were the best I’ve ever had anywhere, and keep in mind I spend much of my wedding life at some of the biggest and best venues in Brisbane, but the City Golf Club offered food and service equal to any other venue I’ve been to, that was a bit of a surprise actually.

Enjoy !!

Fran and Xan – a beautiful Brisbane wedding and fabulous reception

It can be seriously hard sometimes to cull the images from a wedding back to a blog’able number. Most photogs seem to keep it around 15 or so and I’m determined to do the same. My first cull had 287 faves, but after 3 subsequent culls I’ve managed to get it to about 70, so there’s 18 here and there’s 70 or so on over on my Brisbane Wedding Photographer Facebook page. To keep the numbers down I’ve cut the shots of the girls prep, the boys before the ceremony, the ceremony itself, the family shots and the location pics.

.

Fran and Xan had a fabulous reception, heartfelt speeches and so many great laughs. It amazes me that so many couples choose not to have their reception photographed, instead opting for a fake cake cut and a pretend dance, crazy! Sure, the reception is hard to photograph, the lighting is often a nightmare, you’re looking at about $7000 for each of the D3s camera bodies and the popular low light lenses come in between $2000 and $3000 each, so a few lenses, a couple of camera bodies and the costs really add up. It does make the day very long and there’s essentially no breaks for the entire day except for 5 mins to eat a meal, but the wedding receptions continue to deliver many of my favourite images so it’s more than worth it. The bottom line is if you know you have a group of friends that like to play hard, just like Fran and Xan’s close friends, then make sure your photographer is there to capture some of that !!

Sometimes things don’t quite go to plan on a wedding day …

So you’ve been planning your wedding for months now and finally the day arrives . . . . . but so does the rain, then as your bridesmaid is lacing you into your dress you cringe as you hear the unmistakeable sound of material tearing, dooooh the top tie hoop tears away.

So what do you do ???

I’ll tell you what Sarah did, she just laughed and got on with the day. The most important thing for them was spending time with and celebrating their wedding with family and friends, and nothing was going to get in the way of that.

There’s a great lesson in there for all of us, and as you can see from their photos, having their ceremony moved at the last minute, then postponed by an hour and a dress mishap that would see tears in many people, actually had zero effect on how they laughed and celebrated their wedding.

Ask them how their wedding went and they’d probably tell it was perfect !!!

The last day . . . . . . . so sad :(

We have just one night left after tonight, I can’t believe how quickly the time has passed.

We’ve traveled just over 8000kms so far, we worked out we’ve traveled pretty much the same as Brisbane to Perth then back to Uluru. We have another 300ks to Frankfurt Wednesday morning to catch our flight home then we say goodbye to Europe, probably for many years. With both the kids at school now,  it’s only going to get harder and harder to pull them out of school for extended periods, so maybe our next OS trip may have to wait until the kids are able to stay home by themselves. Or, since Nanny and Poppy will both be retired next year maybe we can . . . . . . hmmmm doesn’t matter !! I think the camper will get seeing the most holiday action, for a while anyway.

And I still can’t believe my parents came with us to Italy. Previous to this their idea of a “big trip” was a weekend to the Gold Coast, but now it’s official, they’re world travelers !!   It also sounds a little like my mum may have caught the travel bug. She was asking about the cruise through The Inside Passage recently so hopefully they’ll go check that out next year !! Again THANK YOU so much for coming, it meant a lot to us that you did.

Here’s a few more shots from the streets taken in the last week. There’s a good chance everything will be packed tomorrow ready to head home so I’m guessing there won’t be a post tomorrow night.

But thanks for reading !!

9. Last one, for tonight anyway, and BTW I’ve decided I’m not having any more birthdays, 42 isn’t so bad, my memory isn’t too good any more but most of my other bits and pieces still work OK.  Why am I telling you this, well I saw this lady at a side show about 3 times the other day. Body old and frail, but I’m pretty sure her mind and memory were still sharp. You could see her wishing with all her will and might to stand up and have one last go on the rides. The first 2 times I saw her she was in amongst too many people to get a shot, but the 3rd time was at the ferris wheel. This must have been her favourite ride I think for she spent the longest time there.  It can really mess with your mind when you watch someone long enough, you just can’t help but put yourself in their position. It has to be tough knowing the best parts of your life are behind you, your mind is still willing but the body says no. Here I was able to wait for a couple of minutes until the crowd thinned and I was able to grab a few shots like this. And just like the shot from yesterday at the Jewish memorial, I so wanted to pass on my email so I could send them the shot. I’m kicking myself now for chickening out.

Tamara and Anuj – a Brisbane wedding at St John’s Cathedral and the Stamford Plaza

When we were planning this trip we knew we had 5 weddings in the last couple of weeks before we left, but hoped with a little hired help we have those weddings sorted and ready to show before we left . . . . . alas no, so we decided the best answer was to bring those weddings with us and prepare them on the road. Three are down and dusted, here is number 4 so just one to go now.

Tamara and Anuj managed in one very long day to fit in two ceremonies, one a western style wedding in St John’s Cathedral and the other a traditional ceremony at The Stamford Plaza. Now I’m not sure how Tamara will feel about this next bit, as it’s not too often I post a wedding without some sort of retouching, but today I am. There’s been some simple BW conversions and some tweaking of the colour, but the Tamara you see here is real Tamara, unretouched.

The day was a laugh from start to finish, from the bridesmaids suggesting the dress looked better on the mannequin right through The Stamford being totally evacuated with a fire alarm that just wouldn’t stop. Twice during the day I heard mention of how Anuj was shopping a few shelves higher than he ought when he woo’ed Tamara, but saw for myself how Anuj’s charm and smile eventually won her heart. There’s a lesson there boys, treat the girls like a princess and one day she’ll be your queen.

Both families were exceptionally welcoming which we all know makes it easier to fit in and grab those close moments between family members, for that I’m very grateful !!

There’s more images on my Facebook site, I couldn’t narrow my faves down below 122, so there’s a few here and a bunch more over on FB … Brisbane Wedding Photographer. A quick warning to T&A’s family and friends though, when they pop around to visit with their proof CD, there’s more than 2000 images on it !!!!!!!
